Catholic Creationist Stamp

Description

I can understand why creationism is so closely tied in with Christian fundamentalism. Mainstream creationism is lead by ministries, such as Answers in Genesis, who hold predominately Protestant fundamentalist beliefs (even though there are Catholic groups, like The Kolbe Center, who defend creationism). Creationism has also been, more or less, recieved most of it's support from Fundamentalists since the beginning.

However, not every creationist is a fundamentalist, or even a Protestant. I'm a living example of a Catholic who supports creationism, and holds the belief that the Bible is non-literal. While there are only few Catholics like myself ( I can only list two or three others I know personally who are Catholic creationists), we are still the exception. We also find ourselves in an awkward position, as Catholics on one side say we are misusing the Bible as a scientific source, and fundamentalists on the other are saying our interpretations are not literal enough. On one side we're scientifically illiterate, backwoods rednecks who were brainwashed into believing creationism, and on the other side we're idol-worshiping, Mary-obsessed pagans with one redeeming quality.

Yeah yeah, I know. Those views are opposite extremes and not everyone thinks that way. But, quite frankly, I have seen both sides too often to ignore it, not to mention seen plenty in-between.

I am a Catholic who loves her Church, her Heavenly Mother, and above all, her everlasting Creator. I love Jesus and am humbly grateful for graces he gave me, whether given directly or through Mary or the saints. I may not like the Vatican politics, but I trust that in the end, the Holy Catholic Church will remain standing firm to the Truth. I know my Lord and Savior, and my faith continues to flourish everyday because of what my Church and God have done, is doing, and will do for me and others. (And, funnily enough, when I used to be Baptist, I was a theistic evolutionist!)

Believing that God wouldn't use evolution - a long process that involves death and pain - to create the universe, and then blame the existence of death and pain on humanity's "sin", doesn't hinder any of that.

In fact, I and other Catholic creationists find it very freeing, and it does not conflict with our Catholic beliefs: it only strengthens them.

If you are also a Catholic who supports the theory of creationism, feel free to fave and use. :la:

God bless, ya'll!

No, I am not saying you are a "bad" Catholic for not being a creationist; I am only saying it is unfair that creationists within the Church are so often labeled as idiots, uneducated, etc, and never considered when the discussion of Genesis is brought up.

No, I am not saying being a Catholic creationist is better than being a Fundamentalist creationist; I am only saying that they don't "own" it, and anyone of any denomination can support creationism.

That is all.

Comments are closed for a reason. I do not have the time to debate/discuss, and I did not make this to "convert" anyone. I'm pretty sure no one is going to change their mind over a dA comment chain anyway. That's just silly.

I did make this because I have been attacked verbally, more than once, on my beliefs concerning creationism as a Catholic. I think people are ignorant of what creationists in general believe and it only adds on to the needless and harmful social stigma that is plastered onto us. We believe what we believe for a reason; maybe instead of taking your knowledge on us from anti-creationist sources, you actually ask us ourselves, "So hey, what's the deal?" And please, to the fundamentalists: before attacking Catholics who hold creationist views, study why they believe in Catholicism. We can't afford to widen the divide.

The more you know, bro!
